Real Proud Kinda I Am...

Jason surprised us with his successful bounty of one whole Martin. You realize that he's waited two years for this moment. This definitely displays much more patience than the average trapper, American, teenager, well everyone. As I was home surfing the internet, he bursts through the door, "Guess what I have behind my back?" "Maybe a lynx or fox?" I reply. His expression at the time would draw an audience since the suspense was growing. Out comes the Martin in the usual Martiny style, frozen with snow in it's mouth and teeth showing. Well, all kinds of accolades began to come from me. Jason grew up in Alpena, Michigan with one sister, mom, dad, and a dog. My family consists of grandparents, uncles, adopted brothers, and half brothers and sisters. You get the point, my culture was just a little different from his background. We appreciate the differences, rather than feel seperated through them. Jason, through his trapping, identifies himself more and more with the Native culture. "See babe, I'm Native." I don't believe he's disowning his upbringing, but Grandma Slwooko sure treats him like her own!

Koyuk being my hometown, I have kept a record of the Marten population in a 15 mile radius of the village. Since 1992, the population has been on a decline. And the only reasonable explanation has been due to winter trapping. The Nanouk family having roots by means of the Kimoktoak family for generations, have first right to the Marten of the Koyuk geographical area. Because the Marten numbers in the area are in danger, I condone your Marten trapping from here henceforth. I suggest your go for the little black mut dogs that run rampant throughout the village of Koyuk- which has now become epidemic. Thank you for the opportunity to comment. Wildlife Biologist, Iniqtuq

Dougie... I appreciate your biological input on this one... thankfully for the marten population, I mislabeled this animal and it is actually a mink... as much as I wish that it had turned out to be a marten and what he was doing that far from the river, I don't know. Hopefully, the Bravo will set me free into some deep powder, spruce tree boondocking that will hook me up in some virgin marten territory and pay for the lifestyle I have grown accostomed to. Looks like the colt/tripacer may not work out... we're still looking for something affordable. Maybe I'll figure out a steel tube frame, ermine skin pacer of some sort powered by a 250 yamaha engine. Ah Man!!! So it really is a mink instead of a marten? Now that you mention it (if you're serious), looking at it kind of makes sense. But, I would classify trapping a MINK a higher accomplishment than trapping a marten!!! That's awesome!!!!! I'm going by your word Jay!! Too bad about the plane. I was waiting for you and My to annouce, "We're going to flight school!" But I understand your reasons!! I'm in not too bad of shape, but a plane is still out of the question!! Eski
